ZED-F9K-01A is a high-precision automotive dead reckoning GNSS module from u-blox. It combines the u-blox F9 multi-band GNSS platform with an integrated inertial measurement unit to provide continuous positioning for demanding automotive applications.
The module supports multi-band and multi-constellation GNSS operation and combines GNSS measurements with IMU data, vehicle wheel-speed information, and vehicle dynamics to maintain positioning when satellite signals are temporarily unavailable. It is designed for applications such as advanced driver assistance systems, vehicle navigation, V2X systems, and head-up displays.
ZED-F9K-01A supports GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, QZSS, and NavIC. Depending on the configuration, it supports L1/L2/E5b or L1/L5 multi-band operation.
The module provides RTK positioning and automotive dead reckoning. Its maximum navigation update rate can reach 50 Hz in priority navigation mode, while the raw IMU sensor data output rate can reach 100 Hz. The module also provides multiple communication interfaces, including two UART interfaces, USB, SPI, and I2C-compatible DDC.
ZED-F9K-01A is designed for high-precision positioning where standard GNSS positioning may not provide continuous results. The integrated dead reckoning system combines GNSS, inertial sensors, and vehicle motion information to maintain positioning during GNSS signal interruptions.
The module can achieve decimeter-level RTK positioning performance. Under the specified conditions, the data sheet lists 0.20 m along-track and cross-track accuracy in its RTK performance table. The automotive dead reckoning system can also provide positioning during periods when GNSS signals are unavailable.
ZED-F9K-01A is supplied in a 54-pin LGA package measuring approximately 17.0 mm × 22.0 mm × 2.4 mm. The module integrates a TCXO, RTC crystal, flash memory, 3D accelerometer, 3D gyroscope, diplexer, and SAW filters.
The module operates from a supply voltage of 2.7 V to 3.6 V and is designed for operation from -40°C to +105°C. It supports an external active antenna through the module's antenna connection.
ZED-F9K-01A provides two UART interfaces together with USB, SPI, and I2C-compatible DDC connectivity. UART1 serves as the primary host communication interface, while UART2 can be used for RTCM corrections and NMEA messages.
The module supports NMEA, UBX binary, and RTCM 3.3 protocols. SPI is optional and shares pins with UART and I2C functions, allowing designers to select the interface required by the host system.
ZED-F9K-01A is primarily intended for automotive positioning applications. Typical applications include advanced driver assistance systems, vehicle navigation, lane-level positioning, V2X equipment, head-up displays, and automotive telematics.
Its dead reckoning capability is particularly useful in environments where GNSS reception can be interrupted or degraded, including tunnels, parking structures, and urban environments with limited satellite visibility.
When integrating ZED-F9K-01A, engineers should consider antenna selection, RF layout, power supply stability, grounding, thermal conditions, and the placement of the module and inertial sensors.
The antenna system is especially important for multi-band GNSS performance. Designers should also follow the manufacturer's recommended PCB layout and keep RF-sensitive areas clear of unnecessary noise sources.
Automotive applications should additionally consider the module's temperature range, vehicle sensor inputs, wheel-speed signals, and the calibration requirements of the dead reckoning system.
ZED-F9K-01A includes anti-jamming and anti-spoofing features designed to improve positioning reliability in environments affected by RF interference or manipulated GNSS signals.
The module is designed for automotive applications and supports qualification according to AEC-Q104 requirements. Its operating temperature range extends to 105°C, allowing integration into various locations within a vehicle.
When sourcing ZED-F9K-01A, buyers should specify the complete part number and verify the exact hardware and firmware configuration. The ZED-F9K family includes different variants, so the required GNSS bands, automotive grade, firmware version, and ordering code should be confirmed before procurement.
For production projects, buyers should also verify manufacturer availability, packaging, traceability, operating temperature requirements, and current product status. The latest u-blox documentation should be used when finalizing the design because GNSS module specifications and firmware capabilities can change between product revisions.
