The XC7A35T-2CSG325C is an AMD Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA aimed at embedded hardware that needs a combination of programmable logic, digital signal processing and high-speed connectivity.
With 33,280 logic cells, 90 DSP48E1 slices, 1.8432 Mb of total block RAM and four GTP transceivers, the device provides considerably more than basic programmable control logic. It can serve as the processing and interface engine in compact industrial, communications and instrumentation equipment.
The XC7A35T device occupies a useful position in the Artix-7 family. It offers enough logic for moderately complex hardware designs while avoiding the larger package and resource overhead associated with higher-density FPGAs.
The 33,280 logic cells are supported by 5,200 configurable logic blocks and up to 400 Kb of distributed RAM. This combination allows designers to implement custom state machines, interface controllers, buffering and parallel processing functions within the same device.
For products that need dedicated hardware behavior rather than software-controlled peripherals, this flexibility can be particularly valuable.
One of the defining characteristics of the XC7A35T is its integrated high-speed serial capability.
The device includes four GTP transceivers, with supported line rates reaching up to 6.6 Gb/s depending on configuration and operating conditions. These transceivers can be used to build high-speed chip-to-chip links and other serial communication paths.
This makes the XC7A35T more suitable for bandwidth-intensive embedded equipment than a low-end FPGA without integrated serial transceivers.
The programmable logic surrounding the transceivers can also be customized for protocol handling, packet processing and application-specific data paths.
The XC7A35T-2CSG325C includes 90 DSP48E1 slices. These dedicated arithmetic resources are designed for operations such as multiplication, accumulation and digital filtering.
In practical applications, DSP slices can be used to accelerate algorithms that would otherwise consume a large amount of general FPGA logic.
Signal conditioning, motor-control calculations, communications algorithms and image-processing pipelines can all benefit from dedicated arithmetic hardware. Because many operations can execute concurrently, an FPGA implementation can provide predictable processing latency for real-time systems.
The device contains 100 18-Kb block RAM blocks, providing approximately 1.8 Mb of block RAM, while DigiKey specifies 1,843,200 total RAM bits for the device.
This embedded memory can be configured for data buffering, FIFO structures, lookup tables and temporary storage.
For high-speed interfaces, local memory is especially useful because incoming data can be buffered before being processed or transferred to another part of the system. Combining embedded RAM with DSP resources and GTP transceivers creates a useful architecture for continuous data streams.
The XC7A35T family also incorporates a PCI Express endpoint block and an XADC interface.
PCIe support allows the FPGA to participate in host-based systems where high-speed data exchange with a processor or computer is required. Meanwhile, the XADC provides an integrated analog-to-digital conversion capability together with monitoring functions.
These features allow a single FPGA to perform several roles that might otherwise require separate interface and monitoring components.
The XC7A35T-2CSG325C is associated with the 324/325-ball CSBGA package family and provides 150 user I/O in this configuration. The package body is approximately 15 × 15 mm.
The compact package is suitable for embedded boards where routing density and PCB area are important. Designers should pay particular attention to the FPGA's I/O-bank voltage requirements, transceiver routing, power distribution and high-speed signal integrity during board development.
The final “C” in XC7A35T-2CSG325C identifies the commercial temperature version, with an operating junction temperature range of approximately 0°C to +85°C.
This makes the device well suited to controlled-environment electronics, communications equipment, laboratory instrumentation and commercial embedded products.
For equipment expected to operate in extended temperature environments, designers should instead evaluate the corresponding industrial-grade Artix-7 variants.
XC7A35T-2CSG325C is particularly interesting when an embedded product needs several capabilities at the same time: programmable control logic, local memory, hardware arithmetic and high-speed serial communication.
It can be used in data acquisition equipment, industrial networking, test instruments, imaging systems, communications hardware and custom PCIe devices.
Its relatively compact package and moderate logic capacity make it a practical middle ground for designs that have outgrown smaller programmable devices but do not require the resource scale of a much larger FPGA.
