PDT012A0X3-SRZ 12A Digital Point-of-Load DC/DC Module


PDT012A0X3-SRZ is a high-current non-isolated DC/DC power module from the Pico DLynx family. Designed for point-of-load power conversion, it accepts a wide 3V to 14.4V input range and provides a programmable output from 0.45V to 5.5V with up to 12A of output current.

The module combines power conversion and control functions in a compact open-frame package, making it suitable for processor power rails, digital systems and other applications where board space and transient response are important.

12A Output in a 12.2mm Package

One of the defining characteristics of PDT012A0X3-SRZ is its high output-current capability relative to its physical size. The module measures approximately 12.2mm × 12.2mm × 8.5mm while supporting up to 12A of output current.

The compact footprint allows the converter to be placed close to the load, reducing the distance between the power module and processor or other high-current device. This point-of-load arrangement can help simplify the distribution of low-voltage power across a PCB.

Wide Input and Programmable Output

PDT012A0X3-SRZ supports an input voltage range of 3V to 14.4V. Its output can be programmed through an external resistor, with the standard programmable range extending from 0.6V to 5.5V. The digital control architecture also supports adjustment down to approximately 0.45V.

This flexibility allows one power module to support different voltage rails without requiring a separate fixed-output converter for every system configuration.

The maximum output current is 12A, with a maximum output power of approximately 66W depending on the selected input and output conditions.

PMBus Digital Power Management

PDT012A0X3-SRZ incorporates a digital interface based on PMBus. This allows system controllers to communicate with the power module and access operating information rather than relying only on fixed analog settings.

The digital interface provides monitoring capabilities for parameters such as input voltage, output voltage and output current. The PMBus interface operates over a 10kHz to 400kHz range.

For systems containing multiple point-of-load converters, digital power management can simplify system monitoring and configuration.

Tunable Dynamic Response

The Pico DLynx architecture includes Tunable Loop technology, allowing the control loop response to be optimized for the characteristics of the target load.

This is particularly relevant for processor and digital logic power rails, where rapid changes in current demand can produce significant transient conditions. Proper loop configuration and external capacitance selection can help the converter maintain a stable output during dynamic loading.

The module also provides output voltage sequencing and a Power Good signal for system-level power management.

Synchronization and Remote On/Off

PDT012A0X3-SRZ uses a fixed switching frequency while providing external synchronization capability. Multiple modules can therefore be coordinated when system-level switching-frequency management is required.

A remote On/Off input is also included. This enables the host system to control the power module without disconnecting the main input supply.

The module can both source and sink current, providing additional flexibility for systems with dynamic power requirements.

Protection for High-Current Applications

The converter integrates several protection functions intended for reliable operation in demanding embedded systems. Non-latching output overcurrent protection limits abnormal current conditions, while overtemperature protection helps prevent damage during excessive thermal loading.

The device also includes undervoltage-related control functions and a Power Good indication that can be used by the host system to determine whether the output is within the expected operating condition.

Compact Surface-Mount Power Module

PDT012A0X3-SRZ uses a 17-terminal surface-mount module package and is supplied in tape-and-reel packaging. The compact 12.2mm × 12.2mm footprint makes it suitable for dense PCB layouts where a discrete regulator implementation would consume more board area.

The standard operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C. A ruggedized version of the Pico DLynx family extends the temperature capability to 105°C.

The combination of 12A output capability, wide input range, programmable low-voltage output and PMBus digital control makes PDT012A0X3-SRZ suitable for a broad range of point-of-load power applications.

Typical applications include telecom and networking equipment, embedded computing platforms, industrial electronics, digital processing systems and other boards requiring high-current low-voltage power rails.

For existing designs using the Pico DLynx architecture, PDT012A0X3-SRZ offers a compact way to provide digitally manageable point-of-load power without implementing the complete switching converter from discrete controller, inductor and power-stage components.
