D3V1651A5 is an Omron D3V series miniature basic switch designed for applications where a mechanical movement needs to produce a reliable electrical switching action. The complete catalog form is D3V-165-1A5, and distributor listings may also show D3V1651A5 without the hyphens.
That difference in how the model is written is worth knowing because searching only one format can make a supplier search appear smaller than it really is.
The more important question is what the individual characters in the model actually represent.
The D3V series contains a large number of mechanically similar switches.
Within the series, the actuator, contact arrangement and terminal style can all change while the basic product appearance remains similar.

The roller allows the external mechanism to push or slide across the actuator rather than requiring a direct vertical push on a plunger. This can make the switch easier to integrate into moving mechanisms where the contact surface approaches the switch from an angle.
The short roller lever also has a defined operating force. Omron specifies a maximum operating force of 2.35 N for this particular model.
This is an important selection detail because two switches with the same electrical rating can behave very differently mechanically.
D3V-165-1A5 uses a 1c contact configuration, equivalent to SPDT.
That means the switch provides a common terminal with normally open and normally closed contacts.
This gives the designer more flexibility than a simple normally open switch.
The same mechanical D3V configuration is available with different contact arrangements, including SPST-NC and SPST-NO versions. Omron's D3V model table lists these alternatives directly beside the -1A5 version.
So if a machine uses the normally closed path as a safety or position signal, replacing the device with an apparently similar normally open version would change the circuit behavior.
The contact configuration therefore needs to be checked before treating another D3V model as a replacement.
Omron specifies this version for a 16 A general load at AC250 V, with a 1 mm contact gap. The official specifications also list DC ratings of 0.6 A at DC125 V and 0.3 A at DC250 V for resistive loads.
This is an important distinction.
A buyer who sees "16 A 250 V" might assume the switch can handle 16 A at 250 V DC.
It cannot.
The AC and DC switching capabilities are different, and the DC rating is substantially lower at higher voltage.
For replacement work, the actual load type and switching voltage should therefore be checked rather than relying on the headline 16 A rating.
Omron specifies a maximum operating force of 2.35 N, maximum pretravel of 1.6 mm, and minimum overtravel of 0.8 mm for the V-165-1A5 specification.
These mechanical numbers become important when the switch is being used to detect the position of a moving part.
A machine mechanism needs to reach the operating point reliably without damaging the actuator through excessive travel.
That is one reason a switch with the same electrical rating but a different lever style is not necessarily a mechanical substitute.
One particularly useful point for buyers is the relationship between the two names.
D3V-165-1A5 belongs to the D3V miniature basic switch family.
V-165-1A5 is a different Omron basic switch model that also uses a hinge roller short lever configuration and a 16 A rating. Omron lists V-165-1A5 separately from the D3V series.
The two models can therefore appear deceptively similar in distributor searches.
They should not be treated as automatically interchangeable just because both are Omron switches and have similar electrical ratings.
The mounting arrangement, dimensions, actuator geometry and terminal structure need to be compared with the existing design.
The D3V family also provides different terminal configurations.
For the D3V-165 series, Omron lists solder terminals as the A option, while quick-connect terminal versions are available using other suffixes.
This means that the difference between D3V-165-1A5 and another apparently similar D3V part may not be electrical performance at all.
It may determine how the component physically connects to the wiring harness.
For a repair or replacement project, this can save an unnecessary redesign of the wiring.
The combination of a roller actuator, SPDT contacts and a relatively high general-load rating makes D3V1651A5 useful for mechanical position detection and switching applications.

Those numbers should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every real-world installation will achieve exactly those figures.
Electrical load, switching frequency, environmental conditions and actuator movement all affect actual life.
But the difference between the mechanical and electrical figures explains something important about this type of component.
The switch mechanism itself can survive far more operations than the contacts can necessarily perform while switching a substantial electrical load.
For an exact replacement, verify five things first.
The complete part number should be D3V-165-1A5.
The actuator should be the short hinge roller type.
The contact arrangement should be SPDT.
The terminals should match the solder-terminal version.
The electrical load should remain within the appropriate AC or DC rating.
The mounting dimensions should then be checked against the original switch.
This approach is more reliable than searching for an "Omron 16A roller microswitch" and choosing the first visually similar component.
D3V1651A5 is a good example of why miniature switches need to be searched by their complete manufacturer part number.
The difference between two models can be a lever length, contact arrangement or terminal style rather than a dramatic change in the external appearance.
